The Town of Murphy NC will celebrate Independence Day on July 4 with activities beginning at 10 a.m. in Konehete Park, a parade starting at 12:30 p.m. from the L&N Depot and ending with a grand fireworks display in Konehette Park around 9:30 p.m.
The festivities will begin with a fishing derby from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday along the river for ages 12 years and under. The fishing derby will be sponsored by the Mountain County Rod & Gun Club. Kids of all ages will compete for one of three prizes – largest fish, most fish caught and smallest fish. Craft booths, food vendors and a variety of bouncy houses will be at Konehete Park for the duration of the event. A horseshoe tournament will will also take place at 10 a.m. by Pavilion 3 located inside Konehete Park.
Konehete Park is also known for its famous peanut drop this time of year. The Peanut Drop will happen at 12pm / wear protective eye gear 🙂 The egg and water balloon toss is set for 1:30 p.m. You can also sign up for hot air balloon rides at 6:30 p.m.
